For the first four weeks of contests that make up the Atlantic Tower in Comporta,there were great exhibitions

Yesterday, in the Grand Prix at 1.45 m, the British George Whitaker accompanied Tubana who won with more than two seconds ahead of Portuguese Antonio Vozone Woman with Lacy. Belgium Fredrerik Cattebeke finished third in the saddle on Cakoa 2. French Bruno Broucqsault figure in the standings with two horses: he is fourth on the Pause Cafe Saloz and twelfth with Draco. Alain Bourdon finished in sixth place on Kassandre Erger.

ATLANTIC TOUR 2012 COMPORTA/PORTUGAL

From 21nd February to 18th March, Herdade da Comporta will be the setting one more time for the most important equestrian event in Portugal.

Blessed with exceptional conditions, the region has been steadily attracting more and more horse riders and visitors from all over the world.

For five weeks this “equestrian city” brings together 350 riders from 26 countries, 500 horses and, all told, an estimated total of roughly 5000 visitors and participants. The 9 competitions being held will all count to the world ranking.

This year there will be one more sand arena: 100m X 60m.

Spectators can watch the events from close up or, if they prefer, from one of the two restaurants made available to visitors.

FADO: World’s Intangible Cultural Heritage – UNESCO

Fado, Lisbon’s mournful song and the Portuguese most traditional music genre, was added Sunday to UNESCO’s list of World’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. According to UNESCO, intangible heritage includes traditions and skills passed on within cultures.

The UNESCO’s committee of experts, meeting on Bali island of Indonesia, unanimously praised Fado as an “example of good practices” that should be followed by other countries.

On its website, UNESCO describes Fado as the”urband popular song of Portugal,” stating

Fado is a performance genre incorporating music and poetry widely practised by various communities in Lisbon. It represents a Portuguese multicultural synthesis of Afro-Brazilian sung dances, local traditional genres of song and dance, musical traditions from rural areas of the country brought by successive waves of internal immigration, and the cosmopolitan urban song patterns of the early nineteenth century. Fado songs are usually performed by a solo singer, male or female, traditionally accompanied by a wire-strung acoustic guitar and the Portuguese guitarra – a pear-shaped lute with twelve wire strings, unique to Portugal, which also has an extensive solo repertoire. The past few decades have witnessed this instrumental accompaniment expanded to two Portuguese guitars, a guitar and a bass guitar. Fado is performed professionally on the concert circuit and in small ‘Fado houses’, and by amateurs in numerous grass-root associations located throughout older neighbourhoods of Lisbon. Informal tuition by older, respected exponents takes place in traditional performance spaces and often over successive generations within the same families. The dissemination of Fado through emigration and the world music circuit has reinforced its image as a symbol of Portuguese identity, leading to a process of cross-cultural exchange involving other musical traditions.

Chispalhada by Montijo

Montijo is located in the north of Portugal Dream Coast, surrounded by the green of the rural landscape and by the blue of Tejo River. Montijo has traditions on agriculture and fish from the river.

Preparation:

After washing and scraping the meat, put it in a pot, adding water and salt accordingly, and boil.

Once the meat is cooked, remove from pot and set it aside. Cook the cabbage, carrots and potatoes cut into quarters in the meat broth. At the same time, cook the sausage separately.

You can use the broth to cook noodles.

Serve on a platter with the potatoes, cabbage, carrots and beans in the centre and around the meat.

Ingredients:

7,5 Dl kidney beans soaked
100g of lard / bacon
1,5 Kg dewlap, sparks, tail and pig’s ear
1 spicy sausage
500grs cabbage
200grs carrots
350grs potatoes
Salt and Water

Now, you can cook Chispalhada by Montijo. Have a nice meal!

Jose Mourinho distinguished with the Portugal Gold Medal of Touristic Merit

Jose Mourinho is among the 15 individuals and institutions that the Government will distinguish this Tuesday with the Gold Medal of Touristic Merit.

The award will be presented at a ceremony in Lisbon chaired by Economy Minister Alvaro Santos Pereira, will also be awarded to the businessman José Carlos Pinto, president of the Portuguese Confederation of Tourism.

The other gold medals for Tourism Merit distinguish two institutions – the Portuguese Golf Federation and the largest space museum in the world, the U.S. Smithsion Institution, who produced the exhibition “Encompassing Globe-Portugal and the World in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.”

Mourinho, born in Setubal, Portugal and is the best footbal coach on the world, coaching now Real Madrid, after Benfica, Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan. During his career and until now he wons 2 champions league in FCPorto and Inter Milan, 2 leagues in Portugal, England and Italy, plus many oficial competitions, breaking a lot of clubs and personal records.

Already on the history of footbal, he is a legend , always proud to help people and his homeland, Setubal on Portugal Dream Coast.

Corroios Tide Mill

Alcochete and Corroios will have a Bird Watching Weekend in October. The Grupo Flamingo – Associação de Defesa do Ambiente organizes this event that will happen at Sapal de Corroios and Sapal de Alcochete.

The guides of the event will be João Morais and Ana Ferreira. If interested, you must do the registration ( mandatory) till 30 September.

Almada Naval Museum

The Naval Museum is located at the old Companhia Portuguesa de Pescas in Olho-de-Boi. Naval Museum has the goal to preserve the memories of the old generations associeted to the progress and development of the naval activity, through exhibitions and promotional activities.

Born in 1991 and ten years after presented exhibitions with the several techniques into wood and iron materials, specially from 1991 to 1994. The main pieces of pure art were given by Companhia Portuguesa de Pescas (founded in 1920).

The framework of the Naval Museum is to preserve and observe the importance of naval construction in the story of several Setubal region generations and the companies that contribute for the development of Almada county.
