José Mourinho HometownSetubal honours “The Special One”.

Former -Real Madrid (now on Chelsea ) coach Jose Mourinho , who completed the 50th birthday in January 26th , is to get a street or an avenue in his Hometown Setubal named after him in honour of his Fantastic and Unique sporting achievements.

José Mourinho’s hometown, Setúbal city , wants to pay a tribute to the former Real Madrid manager and coach, by naming a street after him to coincide with his 50th birthday.

The exact street or avenue has not yet been chosen but the town hall’s general assembly voted unanimously to approve the naming.

The people at Setúbal and all the Portuguese in Portugal and all around the world, have no doubt that Mourinho deserves a statue in his town because he is the who makes it known worldwide Setubal. Let us wait to see if such exist.

Besides this possible honour, the town is also putting on an exhibition about the life of its most famous son. It is due to open on 23rd March at the Galeria Municipal 11 on Avenida Luísa Todi, with the coach expected to attend the inauguration.

One of the main attractions at the exhibition will be replicas of the main trophies win by Mou during his career. Also on display will be items of clothing worn by the coach on the touch-line, including the coat he had on when Porto famously defeated Manchester United in the 2003-04

round of 16.

The Setubal town hall said it had made the decision because of Mourinho’s “extraordinary role in international sport”, but Portugal Dream Coast think and bet ,many years ago he would revolutionize the Football as a Sport, with a  new way and approach to prepare the teams, re-structuring of Clubs and Teams , methodology to train, and some other aspects. We continue thinking José Mourinho will be the Best Coach in the World ever (today he his considered the third).

He is, in all fairness, one of the coaches in the world with the most prestige and qualification.

Mourinho, the self-styled “Special One“, is undoubtedly; the most successful ever Portuguese coach, and we could say with no doubts change the Football in many aspects.

He  celebrate wins  league titles in Four different Countries with Porto (2), Chelsea (2) , Inter (2)  and Real Madrid (1), and has led  Two teams (FCPorto and Internazionale de Milano)  to Two Champions League trophies, 1 UEFA Cup, Cup and Supercup of Portugal, Spain, Italy and England Cups!!!

The city of Setubal

The city of Setubal

Hometown of Chelsea (former SLBenfica, FCPorto, Inter Milano and Real Madrid) football coach Jose Mourinho, Setubal is a land of history and natural beauty.

Take a trip to Setubal and you’ll see for yourself.

Since 2002 that Setubal is part of the listThe most beautiful bays in the world”, an organisation that only 30 bays in the entire world are part of.

To be in this very selective list the location needs to have quality beaches and good conditions for nautical sports.

Setubal has this and much more.

Homeland of Jose Mourinho, it was here in the city of Setubal where he started his career coaching the football team of “Vitória de Setubal“.

Despite being currently far away from his homeland, Mourinho keeps Setubal in his heart and who visits the city easily understands why.

So what Setubal has to offer you?

In Setubal the urban life happens side by side with the tranquility of the Sado estuary. Setubal is at the heart of the Portuguese sardine industry and is famed for it’s sweet and globally acclaimed moscatel wine.

If you feel like tasting a good Portuguese fish dish, here is the right place to be.

And if you fancy something sweet afterwards, try the famous “Tortas de Azeitao” or the not less famous “queijadas“. Setubal’s pedestrian streets, fountains and gardens lend it a certain grace, although it’s still very functioning harbour certainly dominates giving it the feel of a still thriving historic town.

Setubal lies at the mouth of the river Sado on the coast just below Lisbon and opposite the beautifully sandy peninsula of Troia.

On the inland side of this Peninsular is the semi-submerged ruins of the Roman town of Cetóbriga.

If you wish to experiment a truly historical visit, Setubal has much to offer.

The 16th Century Cathedral “Santa Maria da Graça” has beautiful tiles from the 18th Century. The “Igreja de Jesus” is a remarkable Gothic church with its interior columns carved in Arrabida pink stone from the nearby quarry.

The architect Diogo Boitac designed this wonderful example of Manueline style in 1494. “Museu de Setubal” is to be found in the “Mosteiro de Jesus” and it has many religious items and painting. Part of the collection is dedicated to the famous 18th Century Portuguese romantic poet Bocage.

Setubal is an active city with many outdoor activities taking place.

Just look at the river on a weekend day and you’ll see the number of fishermen, people canoeing, sailing, or practising windsurf. Several sports like cycling or mountain climbing are also very popular, or you can simply take a walk on one of the several beautiful public gardens.

If you decide to travel to Setubal, you must definitely visit the city of Setubal. It will make you feel “at home”.
